Summer 2020 Camps

Pop Culture Classroom’s unique and diverse educational camps – which harness students’ existing interest in comics, movies, television, video games, and other pop culture topics – create one-of-a-kind learning experiences for campers and teachers alike. Each day of camp includes time dedicated to direct instruction, lunch (provided by students), outdoor recess, studio time to work on week-long projects, and free time to engage in a variety of pop-culture-themed activities.

Comic Book Camp

June 8-12, 9am-3pm each day

Ages 8-12

From Peanuts to Batman to Lumberjanes, comic books offer something for everyone! Join Pop Culture Classroom for this exciting summer camp where you will explore the fantastic worlds of superheroes, fantasy creatures, and even people just like yourself, all while exercising your creativity and literacy skills. Each day, you’ll learn comic book storytelling techniques and receive hands-on art instruction from real-life comic book artists. Along the way, you’ll learn about and get the chance to use the same tools as real-life comic creators, including tablets, digital drawing software, and high-quality art materials for your final comic. In addition to a new love for the world of comics and their creators, you’ll finish the camp with a fully illustrated comic to call your own! Students do not need to have any experience in art or comics to join.

Camp Game On!

June 15-19, 9am – 3pm each day

Summer time means it’s “Game On!” at Pop Culture Classroom! In this summer camp, we’ll be playing and analyzing all kinds of board and video games. Throughout the week, you’ll also be applying what you’ve discovered about games to create a new board game experience of your very own! You’ll even have the chance to use our 3D printer and Cricut die cut machine to develop everything from your avatars to your final game board. Pop Culture Classroom is here to prove that games aren’t JUST fun. They also help develop critical and creative literacy skills. Come and experience ground-breaking educational programming centered around one of our very favorite summer pastimes: Games!

Comic Book Summer Camp at the Museum of Boulder!

June 22-26

9AM-3PM, $285. Morning-only also optional, 9AM-noon, $225

Ages 7-10

Get creative and dream up your own superheroes and fantasy creatures. Tell the stories of the crazy adventures they go on in your very own comic book! You’ll work with real comic book illustrators and writers and leave with a masterpiece to take home. Pop Culture Classroom (the same one that brings you Denver Pop Culture Con and Denver Comic Con) is coming from Denver to take kids in Boulder on this unique adventure.

Camp Pop Culture Con

June 29-July 3, 9am – 3pm each day

Pop Culture Con is upon us, and what better way to celebrate than to create some awesome cosplay for the occasion! Camp Pop Culture Con is a week-long opportunity for you to design and build a costume with hands-on assistance from Pop Culture Classroom’s teachers. In addition to learning traditional costuming techniques such as sewing and fabrication, our camp gives you the chance to use PCC’s 3D printer and Cricut die cut machines to assist with costume creations. As an added bonus, each camp registration comes with one badge for the student to attend Denver Pop Culture Con on Saturday, July 4th, and attend the Costume Celebration at the con, which you can find more information about here. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to show off their work and experience all the excitement of Denver Pop Culture Con. Your registration also includes 2 adult badges for the same day so that you may accompany your child at the con.

Please note that registrations for this camp are very limited. This is to ensure that each camper receives the attention and resources needed to create their costume!

Role Playing Game Camp

Pop Culture Classroom is excited to feature this unique, week-long summer camp all about role-playing games! A journey of self discovery, empathy building, and critical thinking awaits you as you and a team of fellow game fanatics take part in a rich role-playing game experience. Not only will this week-long, pen-and-paper experience be a ton of fun, but you’ll also have the chance to create and shape the game’s story along the way — all while developing your creativity and literacy skills! From creating characters to using a 20-sided die, this summer camp will prepare you to tell epic stories and give you an all-new love for role-playing games. Camp Manga Madness

August 3-7, 9am – 3pm each day

Ages 12-16

You could spend your summer binging My Hero Academia, Sailor Moon, or Attack on Titan by yourself, OR you could join Pop Culture Classroom for our Manga Madness Summer Camp! You’ll be reading manga, watching anime, and learning from professional artists how to create stories of your own. In addition to consuming and analyzing content, you will receive manga-specific drawing instruction each day! By the end of the week, students will have created their very own finished manga.
